Who is Silver Bay for once the boats come out of the water? From June through Labor Day the answer looks obvious. Families fill the porches and the campus runs like the summer resort it has been for generations. The November and December 2026 calendar points to someone else. It's built around people who can drive over on a Wednesday afternoon, take a 4 p.m. yoga class, and be home for dinner.
That is the real off-season story on this stretch of Lake George's northwest shore. Silver Bay YMCA sets aside a membership that only residents of Silver Bay, Hague, Bolton, Ticonderoga, Crown Point and Putnam can buy. Its late-fall programs fit that small, nearby audience. Two projects that would give winter much more indoor room are still ahead. The Fisher Gymnasium winterization has no announced completion date, and the Bayview Lodge renovation is scheduled to reopen in late spring 2028. So this winter is the campus as it stands today, and knowing what that includes is useful.
The membership with a short list of towns
The Community Fitness Membership is described on Silver Bay's own page as "available exclusively to residents of Silver Bay, Hague, Bolton, Ticonderoga, Crown Point, and Putnam." The page lists what it includes:
- Fisher Gymnasium, fitness centers and the group exercise studio
- Indoor courts
- Hiking trails and disc golf
- Ice fishing access
- Lectures, workshops, concerts and Spiritual Life worship services
- Community and holiday events
The fine print matters in November. Silver Bay notes that some programs carry added fees, run only at certain times or seasons, can change, or depend on the weather. The page doesn't post prices, so sign up through the "Get Membership" link on the Silver Bay membership page to see current terms. The same page offers a separate Visitor Pass for guests who don't live in the six towns.
The list is generous because the YMCA treats community service as part of its mission. Silver Bay reported more than $1.4 million in direct community benefits through programs and services in 2024. The Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce named it 2025 "Large Nonprofit of the Year" for that work. The off-season calendar is where a neighbor actually sees that commitment.
What the calendar holds through mid-December
The live event calendar on silverbay.org is full of small, repeating, afternoon-and-evening programs. Most of them sit on weekdays.
| Program | Dates | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Zombie Trail Walk | Friday, Oct. 30 | 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. |
| Haunted Paine Hall | Saturday, Oct. 31 | 7 to 9 p.m. |
| Mosaic Monday | Nov. 2 | 2:30 to 5 p.m. |
| Evening Yoga | Nov. 4 and 18; Dec. 2, 9 and 16 | 4 to 5 p.m. |
| Stained-glass class | Nov. 5 | 1 to 5 p.m. |
| Pottery Paint & Sip | Nov. 6, 13 and 20; Dec. 4 | 6 to 8 p.m. |
| The Store, in person | Nov. 20 and 21 | 3 to 9 p.m. |
| The Store, online-only sale | Nov. 27 to Dec. 6 | Online |
Halloween weekend is the last stretch of evening events built for families. After that the calendar settles into classes. The Store's in-person hours on November 20 and 21 are its last ones on the calendar this year. The sale then moves online for Black Friday week, with no in-store dates posted for December. Anyone who wants to buy Silver Bay gear in person has two evenings to do it.
The "Moving for Better Balance: Fall 2026" course has been running since August 31. It meets Mondays and Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and wraps up November 19. It's a 12-week, Tai Chi-inspired balance program, and its listing notes that spaces are limited. Watch for the next session announcement.
The calendar's steadiest entry is the fitness center. It lists Fitness Center Open Hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. through November and December, with December 24, 25 and 31 printed alongside every other day. Live calendars change, so check the listing before planning a holiday-morning workout. As posted, though, the gym is the one part of campus scheduled for every day of the season.
Dinner on the north shore, by day of the week
Evenings outside the campus get thinner here as November goes on. The Hague Market serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. daily. It closes at 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday, and Warren County's tourism listing says it closes for winter, typically running May through October. That leaves two dinner options with posted hours, and their schedules happen to fit together.
Mountain View Grille at Silver Bay is described on the YMCA's dining page as open year-round. Its OpenTable page lists Wednesday through Saturday, 5 to 9 p.m., with reservations by phone at 518-543-8833 ext. 23. The menu is American, with ribeye, salmon, Cajun shrimp pasta and eggplant Parmesan, in the $31 to $50 range. If you're not staying on campus or don't hold a membership, call ahead to ask about seating.
Paper & Pencil Restaurant & Lounge, at 117 Burgoyne Road in Ticonderoga, calls itself a year-round restaurant. Its posted hours run dinner on Monday and Thursday through Sunday, generally 4 to 9 p.m. The lounge opens at 3 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday and at 4 p.m. on weekends, and both are closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Reservations are recommended, and walk-ins are accepted.
Put the two schedules side by side:
- Sunday and Monday: Paper & Pencil
- Tuesday: neither, so it's a night to cook at home
- Wednesday: Mountain View Grille, which also works after the 4 p.m. Evening Yoga class on campus
- Thursday through Saturday: either one
The winter Silver Bay is still building
The calendar is modest because much of the campus wasn't built for cold weather, and the fixes are still underway.
When Silver Bay announced $1 million in federal funding for Fisher Gymnasium in February 2023, it said only the fitness and dance studios were winterized. The plan was to make the gym a year-round building, with more wellness programs, indoor activities including pickleball, and a reopened Fisher Lounge as a community gathering place. In March 2026 the YMCA still described the Fisher Gymnasium winterization as a current project, alongside improvements at Slim Point. It gave no completion date for either. A heated, full-size gym and a reopened lounge would turn the off-season from a class schedule into a place to spend a whole winter afternoon. Until Silver Bay announces it's done, the winterized studios are the core of the indoor offering.
Bayview Lodge is further out. The Bayview campaign page lays out the timeline:
- Fall/Winter 2026: contractor bids and selection
- Spring/Summer 2027: fundraising and final design
- Fall 2027 to Spring 2028: renovation work
- Late Spring 2028: reopening
The planned upgrades include air conditioning, updated rooms, better year-round use, and larger indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. The work at Bayview this winter is contractor selection, not construction. Construction would start in fall 2027.
The projects now continue under new leadership. In June 2026 Silver Bay named Lucas Callahan its next CEO. He had served as interim CEO since October 2025.
Looking ahead to February
The next big dates on the off-season calendar come after the new year. Last winter, according to I Love NY's roundup of winter in Hague, Silver Bay Winter Weekend ran February 13 to 16, 2026. That same stretch in Hague had a Hague Volunteer Fire Department breakfast on February 14, a Polar Plunge and chili cook-off on February 15, and the Hague Ice Fishing Derby on February 21 and 22. The Hague Fish and Game Club takes part in Winter Weekend and the Holiday Festival. As of mid-October, neither Silver Bay's calendar nor the Town of Hague's showed 2027 dates. Ice fishing access is already part of the resident membership. So if you join now for the yoga and the gym, that access is in place when the ice and the derby come around.
At Sherwood Group, LLC, we keep track of how the north shore's quiet season actually runs: which kitchens keep their lights on, which programs carry on through the winter, and what Silver Bay's building plans mean for the coming years. If you own near Silver Bay and want to know how winter amenities like these factor into what your property is worth, we're glad to talk it through, whatever the season.
